“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Lao Tzu.
While we sit and wait for science to find a miracle cure for cancer or heart disease, we forget that prevention is the best cure. If you have followed my columns over the months, you likely know that the tools to good health are in our hands. Be it cancer or heart disease or Parkinson disease, we know enough about what causes these conditions to significantly decrease our risk of getting them. So now is a good time to start implementing those steps that make sense to you. One of my clients told me that he loved my blogs but added ‘there is some repetition in what you say’. I know, I know. I am reminded of a joke of the new pastor of a church who on his very first day delivered an excellent sermon. The following week he delivered the same sermon and so the week after…you get the gist. Some members of the congregation approached him and said respectfully “ Do you know you have been repeating the same sermon every week’? To which he replied “ Yes. And I will keep on till you all put into practice what I say.”
And so bear with my repetition. I am not a pastor, but we all need to be reminded that the simple truths are the most powerful and that staying healthy can be quite easy when you do it one step at a time. The Japanese art of ‘Kaizen’ is the art of making big changes (eventually) by making small changes – one step at a time. In our perfectionistic zeal to change our life we wait for the ideal moment and day to make changes. But this perfectionism is the enemy of doing. So in the countdown to New Years 2011, may I suggest you start making those small changes that add up and eventually make dramatic differences to your health. Before the clock strikes 12 and the year 2011 comes in, I would like to explore some simple things we can do with powerful effects on our health! So stay tuned for simple things you can do to achieve excellent health.
Simple, powerful steps to excellent health
